Communication system for and remote reading of meters - Part 1: Data exchange; German version prEN 13757-1:2012

Summary

This document applies to the data exchange and communications for meters and remote reading of meters in a generic way. It is part 1 of the EN 13757 Standard. Additional parts of the EN13757 standards are:EN 13757 part 2: Physical and link layer, twisted pair baseband (M-Bus)EN 13757 part 3: Dedicated application layer (M-Bus)EN 13757 part 4: Wireless meter readout EN 13757 part 5: RelayingEN 13757 part 6: Local BusThe main use of this part 1 of EN13757 is to structure the combination and to specify corresponding elements and services for the communication with meters referring to existing European and International Standards. The basic communication requirements for meters are split into applications for data exchange via local meter interfaces (also for access to wide area networks (WAN)) and local area networks (LAN). With respect to the 3-layer model from IEC (derived from ISO-OSI 7 layer model) the appropriate interfaces and coherent services are defined - referring to existing European and International standards- for physical layer, data link layer and application layer for connection-oriented and connection-less data exchange as far as applicable to local area networks (LAN). In addition this European Standard applies to the application data object models and identification codes for the overall structure of the identification system and the mapping of all data items. This standard is intended for use, but not restricted to, meters with limitation in energy for operation and/or communication. The primary focus is to offer conclusive combinations of generic interfaces and services to fulfil market and technical requirements by open architecture, inter-operability and flexibility for innovation. This is ensured by a structure which allows to select appropriate (technology) based lower layers (physical and link layer) with connection method and to keep application layer and application functionality.
