This standard specifies the design and requirements of vertical outboard ladders used on inland navigation vessels and lays down the main dimensions.*Vertical outboard ladders should be used on vessels with very high ship's sides, to ensure safe stepping in a boat as well as safe access to bank or to vessels with very different heights of board.*They shall be used in cases where sloping outboard ladders according to DIN 83505 are not sufficient. This begins at about 2,3 m height from light load line to main deck.*Outboard ladders form part of the equipment on inland navigation vessels.
